From calm to inner fury in a matter of seconds.
đïž OxalĂĄ: The hidden duality

Pai OxalĂĄ, the great OrixĂĄ of peace and serenity, is often associated with the tranquility that surrounds his steps. Yet looking more deeply into the essence of OxalĂĄ reveals a striking duality that makes him unique.
Although many emphasize his peaceful aura, it is vital to recognize that even the greatest calm can conceal a whirlwind of emotions, and even the deepest tranquility can turn into intense fury. Just as honey, when heated, becomes a searing substance capable of burning, OxalĂĄ also has an aspect that goes beyond his gentleness.
Beneath the tranquil surface lies a powerful force, capable of manifesting with surprising intensity when circumstances demand it. OxalĂĄ’s fury is not a weakness, but a reminder that even the most peaceful deity can protect and defend those who place their trust in him with unwavering passion.
Likewise, the image of calm water conceals a complex reality. OxalĂĄ teaches us that calm can be deceptive, like seemingly tranquil water that conceals the power to drown. OxalĂĄ’s duality reminds us that behind his serenity lies a hidden depth that can envelop and challenge us.
Pai OxalĂĄ is a living testament to the harmony between peace and strength, serenity and fury. He teaches us that true wisdom lies in embracing both facets, understanding that duality is an essential part of the human and spiritual experience. Therefore, when honoring OxalĂĄ â whether at a festival or in a terreiro â it is crucial to remember that his calm is only a veil covering the intensity of his many-sided nature.
The King and the Crown of Ritual Seclusion
If a person’s head makes them a king, ritual seclusion is their coronation. The hair that falls receives the greatest crown in the world. The lowered eyes see all the land beneath their feet that they can conquer.
Exchanging colorful clothes for white ones for several days is a return to the beginning of life. It is as though we became babies again â a blank page to be written under the auspices of our path and of what we chose in Orun, alongside our ancestors. Our aptitudes become talents; our shackles prove fragile before a life that has just begun anew.
It is not that we become better than others who do not understand our seclusion; we are certainly better than we were before it. In no way do we become superheroes or untouchable monks. On the contrary, we see our shadow even more clearly and the power it has over us â how much we allow ourselves to be controlled by what only we ourselves can confront.
An OrixĂĄ does not change anyone’s character.
Our flaws will still need to be reshaped and rooted out of the body that received the finest care and comfort so it could reign over its own life. If we take a leading role alongside the OrixĂĄ, it is not right for the mistakes in how we have built ourselves to steal our light or lead us astray, when a world of possibilities has been opened to us.
An OrixĂĄ does not perform miracles, but brings the tools. Beyond Exu’s iron implements, daggers, or OfĂĄs, our greatest tool becomes the ability to reflect those we worship, bringing their examples, energies, and archetypes to reign alongside us in the days to come.
The miracle, for all intents and purposes, is up to us.
May my Ori and our Oris allow us to be our own kings and queens.
