How to know whether it is me or the entity

As a conscious medium, during your development you may think that, because you can see and hear what is happening, it is 100% you who is there. I do not believe in that theory.

After all, if that were really true, I believe the leader of the house or the terreiro’s chief guides — Caboclo Flecheiro das Matas Virgens and Pai Francisco da Guiné — would already have called you out for pretending, don’t you think?

Worry and insecurity are not good for a medium. You should be calm during spirit incorporation. We must move toward the entity and let it move toward us as well, so that we can feel supported and avoid interfering with its work.

We must remain focused and keep our thoughts steady so that they can make contact with us and, from that point on, take full control of the movement of our bodies and minds.

The shiver we feel in our bodies creates an involuntary force that moves us, makes us say things we do not know, fall to the ground, shoot an arrow into the air, give the caboclo’s cry (brado), bend over and walk with the slow steps of our pretos and pretas velhas, or jump and somersault as our child spirits do.

All we need to do is surrender and believe in this force.

Be certain that if you are taking part in a gira, in mediumship development, in an Umbanda terreiro, there is a purpose, there is a reason. Everything flows from your surrender. Take the first step and let the entities take the next ones for you.

If, even after everything I, Priest Babá Ifá Toki, have said here to you as a son or daughter of Ilê Axé Luz de Odara, you still have any doubts, try to control your body’s involuntary movements. Will you be able to? I think it would be difficult!
